The Birmingham Chapter of Executive Women International (EWI) has united corporate leaders to make Birmingham a better place. In doing so, they provide academic scholarships to high school juniors and adults, and actively work to reduce the nation’s dropout rate with their partnership with The Mattie C. Stewart Foundation.

EWI’s mission is simple: Promoting member firms, enhancing personal and professional development and encourage community involvement. What makes EWI unique is who they are able to mobilize in their community involvement efforts. EWI’s membership firms represent key individuals of some of the most powerful and influential executive’s in Birmingham, including Charles McCrary of Alabama Power Company, Don James of Vulcan Material, and Walter “Mac” Beale, Jr. of Balch & Bingham, LLP to name a few.

Most recently, the Birmingham Chapter of EWI has partnered with The Mattie C. Stewart Foundation to actively work to reduce the nation’s dropout rate. “These women are awesome,” said Dr. Shelley Stewart, Chairman of The Mattie C. Stewart Foundation. “They are a vital pipeline to involving corporate America.” “The Mattie C. Stewart Foundation has been able to accomplish so much as a result of its partnership with the Alabama Chapters of Executive Women International. Their reach and influence is broad and has allowed us to spread the message of staying in school to school systems and leaders across Alabama, Houston, TX; Raleigh, NC; and Atlanta, GA.”

In addition to encouraging education, they organize an annual Executive Night to show appreciation for Birmingham’s most lauded and influential executives. “All of our members are blessed to work so closely with great executives,” said Millie Decker of Gillett and Associates, current President of Birmingham’s EWI. “We are glad that we are able to use our resources to help move Birmingham forward.”
